Genuinely Practical Wedding Planning Tips

There are plenty of people out there who would advise you to follow their instructions when it comes to wedding planning (ourselves included!), but there are some tips that are commonly forgotten while getting caught up in the excitement of the venue, the food, the dress, and so on.

Here are a few practical hints you may also want to keep in mind before the big day finally rolls around.

Think past the day itself

It might be hard to imagine married life, but you need to at least consider it before the night of your wedding. Once the celebration is over, the rest of your life begins. Make sure you’ve actually talked about something other than the wedding ceremony with your spouse-to-be before you actually get married.

Don’t forget important bookings

You might not be sure about what you want at first, but it’s important to think seriously and make decisions as early as possible in order to minimise unexpected costs. For example, if you decide you need to book different entertainment, caterers or photographers at the last minute, this may be a budget-breaking decision you’ll wish you could have avoided.

Add personality to the day

You don’t really need your dream wedding to look like ones in magazines. It’s much better if everything has a little bit of uniqueness to it, so your guests will remember it for all the right reasons. Ensure everything about the day is packed with references to yourself and your new spouse rather than simply generic.

Don’t compromise on the dress

For brides, the wedding dress is often a highlight of the planning process. This is an opportunity to pick out your absolute dream outfit and have everyone mesmerised when you walk down the aisle, so don’t feel like you need to get the process over with and pick anything that’s vaguely suitable. Spend time trying on different options until you’re truly happy with your choice.

Compromise on a few things

The wedding dress should remain up to the bride, but in fairness, it’s impossible to take that approach with everything. If you’re lucky enough to have friends and family who want to help plan your special day, let them give you a hand and take some of the pressure off you. Getting everything absolutely perfect is pointless if you’re too stressed to enjoy it.
